Summer Reading:
Dear Parents,
This summer I am encouraging the children to read two books of their choice. I realize most of our children already do that, but I would like to make this a more formal request. I am also encouraging the children to write a one page report on one of those books. It would be fun for me to read if the children wrote those pieces in the first person from one of the characters point of view. I plan to have the children share the pieces on the first day of school, so it would be great if all children had something to share. These pieces can be typed or hand-written, whichever is best for your child.
Mrs. Luchies has published a recommended reading list on the Woolwich web site. Also, the seventh and eighth graders have an Edmodo password which allows them to write to their friends over the internet and to share their books. Edmodo is a child oriented sharing site. I will be checking this site periodically over the summer and responding to the children. The Edmodo piece is not a have to, but the written essay is required.
Thanks and have a great summer. I look forward to working with your children this fall. Keep them reading! Ed Striewski
